JOB POSTING: A&R MANAGER
Arts & Crafts, a leading independent music company, has an immediate, full-time opportunity for an A&R Manager. As a key member of the Arts & Crafts team, the A&R Manager will work closely with the label, management and publishing divisions of the company to both scout new talent and participate in the development of artist recording projects. The ideal candidate will have an extensive network within the music industry, be on top of industry trends and have a strong grasp of the Arts & Crafts active roster, back catalogue and brand identity.

The job will be based out of our office in downtown Toronto, with the flexibility to accommodate hybrid workplace/work-from-home arrangements.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify and lead acquisition of emerging talent as well as established talent for A&C’s label, publishing and management roster
  • Acquire titles for license from third party partners
  • Identify potential foreign labels and work with senior management to license A&C releases in international territories as needed
  • Liaise with Managers, Lawyers, Publishers, Booking Agents, Songwriters, Producers, Labels, Publicists, and Tastemakers
  • Run P&L projections for potential signings to determine viability
  • Make recommendations for deal structure and offer proposals
  • Work alongside managers, artists and producers to manage writing and recording process end-to-end to ensure commercially viable masters are created in a timely manner and within budget
  • Participate in development of creative branding of projects including visual imagery and video production
  • Manage budgets within A&C online budget portal and with accounting team
  • Business travel as required

KEY SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
  • 5+ years of music industry experience, with a data-driven approach and demonstrated track record of identifying emerging artists with world-class talent and commercial potential
  • Knowledge of current trends in music, and the ability to anticipate shifts in music consumer tastes and behaviour
  • Extensive industry network, including managers, lawyers, publishers, booking agents, songwriters, producers, labels, publicists, and tastemakers
  • Ability to quickly and consistently develop new relationships
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and organizational skills
  • Ability to understand, manage and forecast budgets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with artists, producers, and songwriters
  • High degree of credibility and influence inside and outside company
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Flexible and able to multi-task across multiple artist recording projects
  • Must be willing and able to attend concerts, artist appearances, recording sessions, and photo and video shoots as required
