BONFIRE BLOG PART 3: SOUTH BY SOUTH WEST (2010-03-28)
Two days of confinement in a van can be tough, but post SXSW it's even harder. Going from the insanity of the crowds to the stillness of the desert is both shocking and calming all at once. The first day at the festi was a whirlwind. First Zeus played at an IODA party and it was run and gun type of scenario. The excitement of being there and the residual juices from Mexico had us amped up. We ripped out a quick set that was over before we knew it. We were all charging around the stage like men on fire. Right afterwards, we sped over to the Convention Center to play a quieter affair with Collett. While there, I saw the young actor who played the Priest in There Will Be Blood. Highly held performance, by him in that movie! The set was followed by the fastest load out in history. 7.5 minutes between ending the set and leaving the parking lot with all our gear packed (made even more impressive by the fact that our gig was on the 4th floor of the convention center). Welcome to South By. After the third show of the day we went to Rubys for our first taste of BBQ at the festi.
Day two we played at a place called Red Eyed Fly. Nice backyard patio vibe. We closed the Collett set with a Zeus song (marching through...) Good times. That night we saw our label mates Timber Timbre and Gonzales play in a church. It was great to hear Taylor, Mika and Simone fill that church with their sounds and Gonzo was spectacular. The solo piano songs lifted my spirits right up to the top of that Cathedral ceiling. Friday was the day that we were really looking forward to.. In the afternoon we played at the Canvas/Onion party. The place was packed we ripped out a few Zeus songs and transitioned into a few Collett tunes. Like a mini Bonfire Ball. It felt like playing The Magpie in Toronto. The evening show was the Arts and Crafts showcase with our friends Still Life Still, Timber Timbre, Zeus, Collett and BSS. We were stoked to be playing right in the heart of the night and we brought that old fire into The Parish, which had great sound and lights. The stage sounded amazing thanks to our tour manager/sound tech Jer Bro. Shout outs to Kat who killed it on the lighting! By the time Saturday rolled around we were all feeling a little trampled but we found the juice to play two more Collett shows where we felt like we played the best versions of most of the songs yet. We rounded out the night with an Arts&Crafts family dinner of Mexican and pitchers of Margheritas. Time to lick our South By wounds and bring the love to San Fran tonight.

BONFIRE BLOG PART 2: Donde Esta El Hotel? (2010-03-23)
Bonfire Ball hit Mexico City last Monday, one of the most populated cities in the world. It was all of our first time playing in Mexico, and we loved every minute of it. Before the show, our hosts Armando and Umberto treated us to a great feast of barbecued squid, chicken, beef, fish, you name it. The show was great – the crowd seemed genuinely excited to have us there, even though they knew nothing about us. Capping off the night were our friends and label mates, Timber Timbre, who put on an incredible show.
Several bottles of tequila later, we stumbled into our hotel room. To be honest, I don't even know how we found our way back, especially with our limited knowledge of Spanish.
“Ola senorita, you are beautiful. Donde es hotel?”
Wish we could've stayed longer in this beautiful country, but Austin and the South by Southwest festival awaits.
A big thank you to all of Arts&Crafts Mexico. Congratulations on your one year anniversary Senors!
-Zeus

BONFIRE BLOG PART 1: Bonfire ball hits the road... and ends up in Bucksnort Tennessee (2010-03-14)
Our trailer is jammed and we haven't even stuffed our luggage in yet. Thank God Jason and the Zeus boys pack light. A small suitcase each for 6 weeks on the road. Somehow we manage to jam them under the van seats and pile in. We spend the ride to London rocking out to Queen. I think these guys are almost as good at air guitar as they are at the real thing... The Bonfire Ball Tour kicked off with a bang four nights ago in Toronto with Lee\s Palace rammed to capacity. Another packed show at Ebar in Guelph. Jason got his first fan gift of the tour – a fanny pack courtesy of Lauren. I think we'll use it to store our air guitar picks. Thanks Lauren! Last night was London, probably the best show so far. After the gig, we headed back to the hotel where Neil got some funky looks from the staff when he stumbled into the lobby with a big ol' garbage bag full of beers instead of luggage. After 16 hours of straight driving we stop for the night in Bucksnort Tennessee. Our waitress tells us that the place was named after a hunter named Buck who made moonshine. Locals used to say they were going to “Buck's to get a Snort”. Back to the road!

Who is Mother Zeus? Rat a Tat Tat is extremely good, blows my mind, it beat all expectations I may have had. I'm holding out to buy the cd when I see the band in Northampton - so no canceling :)

To Wit To Woo (2010-01-21)
In addition to the March 9 release of Jason Collett’s fourth full-length, Rat A Tat Tat, Collett has announced the To Wit To Woo EP, featuring six songs recorded during album sessions, to be made available digitally and on Collett’s just announced spring Bonfire Ball tour.
Rat A Tat Tatand To Wit To Woo were recorded in the summer and fall of 2009, largely on the east side of Toronto at Ill Eagle, Carlin Nicholson and Mike O’Brien of Zeus’ studio. Zeus, Collett’s long time backing band contributed throughout both releases along with a bevy of guests. Rat a Tat Tatis Jason Collett at his most playful, robust and revelatory. A true marvel.
The Bonfire Ball tour, a true revue, with Zeus and Bahamas performing one long set, together and apart, was announced last week, kicking off at Canada Music Week on March 10th, continuing through SXSW, out west and across the great north on both sides of the border. Additional dates will be announced shortly.
For a free download of the EP track, “Little Tiger”, click here.
Jason Collett, Zeus and Bahamas have announced a North American revue tour featuring all three artists performing together and alone during a night long set of incredible music. The three acts have a long history of collaboration, as intertwined as their musical lineage. Instead of the typical show in which each act plays its own set, Collett, Zeus and Bahamas will all take the stage together, playing songs by all three.
The tour comes on the heels of new albums for Collett (Rat A Tat Tat, March 9) and Zeus (Say Us, February 23), and songs from both will be featured throughout the evening. The Bonfire Ball will kick off in March at Canadian Music Week in Toronto, wrapping in Kingston, April 17. Dates are below, with more to be announced.

I'm really looking forward to your new release. I'm a big fan. I had a thought about what a great show it would be if you hooked up with Chuck Prophet for a gig in my apartment. But, I'd take a show close by. Please consider dipping down around Albany, NY or Northampton Mass. for a show, I'll do what I can for promotion.
Best of luck with the new album!
