With Forgiveness Rock Record, the first Broken Social Scene record following the acclaimed Broken Social Scene Presents… series, Broken Social Scene decided it was time to try something new. As a core six-piece who had spent most of 2007 and 2008 on the road, Drew, Canning, Spearin, Whiteman, Goldberg and Peroff spent early 2009 working on new material in Toronto. The pairing down of the band’s massive personnel list for the first time proved extremely fruitful; they created spacious songs written as a band by a band, resulting in more cohesive, melody-driven compositions than previous BSS output. They then decamped to Chicago, recording outside of Toronto for the first time, which allowed them to fully immerse themselves in the recording process. In producer John McEntire – a musical hero for many of the band’s members – they found a fresh perspective on their own sound; this continued to fuel the creative process, resulting in nearly 40 songs written in and out of the studio, a number of which were put together as the first new Broken Social Scene record in five years.

One of Canada's most treasured troubadours, Broken Social Scene "alumnus" Jason Collett is an artist who pushes the boundaries of the common singer-songwriter, blurring the lines of rock, folk and soulful country. His forthcoming album, Rat A Tat Tat attributes to, and trumpets the energy of an exciting and burgeoning creative Toronto arts scene, in which Jason Collett finds himself at the very centre. Rat A Tat Tat shows Collett using the Canadian backdrop to further explore his roots as a national storyteller (“Lake Superior,” “Winnipeg Winds,” “High Summer”), and shows his knack for articulating the subtleties of human interactions and experiences (“Cold Blue Halo,” “The Slowest Dance”). As well, he dives headfirst into the passions and struggles of relationships (“Rave On Sad Songs,” “Love Is A Chain”). Rat A Tat Tat is a remarkable and honest example of a storyteller documenting and sound tracking his experiences and surroundings with distinct and precise ability. |

Australian-based Sally Seltmann is an award-winning songwriter and singer who formerly recorded and performed under the name New Buffalo. Her third full-length album, Heart That’s Pounding, is available on April 6 in North America from Arts & Crafts. While Seltmann is best known for co-writing the hit song “1234” (performed by Feist), her previous releases, Somewhere, Anywhere (2007) and The Last Beautiful Day (2005) drew the attention and collaboration from artists such as Jens Lekman, Beth Orton, Jim White, Darren Seltmann (The Avalanches) and Kellie Sutherland (Architecture in Helsinki). |

Still Life Still formed nearly a decade ago in the Toronto suburb of East York when the band’s members had just hit double digits and were barely tall enough to hold up their instruments. Brendon Saarinen (guitar/vocals), Eric Young (guitar/vocals), Derek Paulin (bass), Aaron Romaniuk (drums) and Josh Romaniuk (keys/percussion) have a bond that is instantly exposed with their live performances, which culminate in a pogo-frenzy of fans. |

Timber Timbre stops you. The elements are deceptively simple: a confident but hushed voice, understated guitar, harmonica, strings, looping pedals, organ flourishes, and a subtle percussive beat. All these sounds form a haunting resonance. Hailed ‘Album of the Year’ in a nationwide critics' poll by Eye Weekly, this self-titled album is the work of an otherworldly soul. Over the course of two previous records (2006’s Cedar Shakes and 2007’s Medicinals), and spellbinding performances in support of the likes of Great Lake Swimmers and Final Fantasy, Timber Timbre has earned a devout following, but the years have marked a rapid progression to the sophisticated, cinematic work found on his newest self-titled record. Following SXSW in Austin, Timber Timbre will tour with The Low Anthem in March and April. |

Zeus was born from the musical friendship of Mike O'Brien and Carlin Nicholson. The two Toronto-based musicians have been living on the road for the past few years as the backing band for singer/songwriter and Broken Social Scene member Jason Collett. With a lineup rounded out by longtime friends and musical compatriots Rob Drake and Neil Quin, Zeus draws upon classic influences to craft timeless songs, complete with fuzzed out guitars and shimmering three-part harmonies; classic rock n'roll with a touch of twang.
An EP, entitled Sounds Like Zeus, was released this past summer to widespread critical acclaim, garnering near-perfect reviews and creating a stir with the band's brilliant recreation of the Genesis hit, "That's All." Say Us expands upon the ideas put forth with Sounds Like Zeus, showing even greater range and diversity. Zeus has developed a well-deserved reputation as a formidable live act, cutting their teeth while supporting the likes of Jason Collett, Metric, Sloan and Cuff The Duke.

In August 2009, Dan Mangan released his sophomore album, Nice, Nice, Very Nice in Canada. After three and a half years of touring his sleeper-hit debut, Postcards and Daydreaming, Dan was ready and eager to unveil a collection of lyrical ruminations that showcased his growth as a songwriter. The album shot to #1 on the iTunes Canada singer/songwriter album chart and #1 at Canadian college radio. Rave reviews came from heavy hitting national music-mags as well as countless blogs and print media. Then came the news that Dan had won XM Radio's 'Artist Of The Year' as well as CBC Radio prizes for vocalist and song of the year ("Robots"). Britain’s NME magazine featured him as one of Canada’s most promising acts. In late 2009, Arts & Crafts proudly welcomed Dan Mangan to its growing roster of management clients. 2010 will see releases throughout Europe, America and Australia. |

Hollerado’s “Do-It-Yourself” ethic and boundless imagination has cultivated them into one of Canada’s most exciting new exports. These guys have cracked the magic formula of creating catchy songs that stick in your head, get people to sing along and have a good time. Hollerado’s debut full-length, Record In A Bag, will be released on February 9, 2010, on Royal Mountain Records (distributed by Arts & Crafts). In classic Hollerado style, the CD (complete with bonus goodies and handwritten notes) will be packaged in a ziploc baggie. |

Electrifying hard rock band PRIESTESS is signed to NYC’s Tee Pee Records. The Montreal-based group will issue its highly-anticipated sophomore album Prior to the Fire in February, 2010.
Recorded in Los Angeles with producer David Schiffman (System of a Down, Mars Volta, Nine Inch Nails), Prior to the Fire underlines PRIESTESS’ hard-hitting songwriting, memorable hooks and earth-shaking ability to rock. With a sound built upon a resolute sense of purpose and shaped by hundreds of explosive live shows, PRIESTESS’ Prior to the Fire is an electric recording, bringing to light a colorful pool of both creativity and innovation. The long-awaited follow up to 2006’s critically acclaimed debut Hello Master, Prior to the Fire sees PRIESTESS at once hungry, fierce and focused. The record’s majestic power merges titanic riffs, memorable metal, progressive rock and hard psych elements with the powerful, expressive vocals of frontman / guitarist Mikey Heppner to create an album that will floor heavy music fans.
