2010-06-17 @ 22:46 by Zooey Um, does a straw beach mat count?
2010-06-17 @ 22:49 by Zooey Or a yoga mat? Technically I could bring a piece of cardboard to sit on (although flammable), which is allowed, right? I am resorting to hobo options.
2010-06-17 @ 23:49 by Jane Will there be adequate portable toilets?
If anyone has been the concert in past years, were there adequate toilets/did you have to wait?
2010-06-18 @ 09:31 by james Will we be able to bring bikes over on the Wards ferry?
2010-06-18 @ 11:51 by Greg So the weather forcast say that there is a chance for thunderstorms, and I was just wondering whether the rain or shine policy will include if there is thunder and lightning?
2010-06-18 @ 12:51 by Jen I have a sevee soy allergy and must bring food to a full day event such as this. I contacted the promoters, organizers, etc. and was eventually told that no food can be brought in at all which means that I had to return my ticket and now cannot go to the concert because of their discriminatory policies. Just wanted all of you to know.
2010-06-18 @ 20:43 by Jackson What about film SLR cameras? With no zoom?
2010-06-19 @ 09:48 by WTF!? Thanks for sucking the fun out of the event, Arts & Crafts. How much money are earning on the food concession kickbacks??
Cunts.
2010-06-19 @ 10:51 by Jason Thanks for letting me know Jen. I was wondering whether or not you would be going.
Pretty sure you will be able to find food that doesnt contain soy.
Discriminatory? I actually heard about this anti-soy intolerant movement. Maybe you should learn what discrimination actually means. I bet youve never felt real discrimination in your life.
Pizza is my favourite food. I dont see a pizza vendor on the list. I am now returning my ticket because of their discriminatory policies.
2010-06-19 @ 11:55 by Boo You could just not eat.
2010-06-19 @ 17:10 by Brad This is the worst run festival I have ever been to. Line up to beer garden is 45 min to get tickets. Then it is another, even slower and longer line to get beer. The kicker, no water allowed in. Hello dehydration and heat stroke.
2010-06-19 @ 18:32 by Angry Dan WTF is with making us line up for 3 hours to get beer? You guys are completely incompetent. Oh and not letting us bring water in while we waited is petty bullshit. Fuck you assholes for putting us through this shit. Fuck you very much.
2010-06-20 @ 01:03 by Shawna Worst concert I have ever been to. I feel bad for the bands as I was lost in anger dealing with an 1 hour line up to get four beer tickets only to wait another 1-2 hours to get two lousy draft beers...I will never ever go to a concert on the island again! Lesson learned!
2010-06-20 @ 11:27 by RT This festival has shot itself in the foot yet again. Can anyone explain why you would need to go through a bag/ID checks everytime you enter the beer garden? Oh, and of course, there are about 4 people working the line for the THOUSANDS trying to get in. And why do you have to dispose of your festival purchased water before entering the beer area? Do you actually think someone will funnel their beer and take it outside?? Oh, the humanity!!
This recent rendition has cemented that Toronto is not capable of competently running an island festival. Never going again.
2010-06-20 @ 13:08 by concert attendee I loved that concert organizers worked to provide a festival alternative to the corporate invasion that is now the norm Toronto outdoor venues. It was great to see local restaurants and business owners at the island festival. And even better, loved living advertisement free (for the most part) for an afternoon.
But I think this effort was over shadowed by extremely poor logistics resulting in people not being able to access food or water easily and the feeling of general disappointment. A sore sport: we didn’t get to have a cold beer, on our day off, while listening to our favourite band - unless of course you like standing in lines.
I think the logistics could have been improved by:
- Signage indicating where free water tap sources are to re-fill waterbottles
- Atleast double the amount of food vendors
-Or just allow people to bring in food
And at the end of the day, one person going 8 hours with little water and food is not a huge deal. 10,000 people, however, going 8 hours with difficult access to basic needs, I just thought something was worth mentioning.
2010-06-20 @ 13:35 by Jack That was the worst fun festival I have ever been to. The lines for food and beer were crazy.
Why do you only have two people taking money for beer tickets? No wonder the lines were so long. Whats the point of the beer tickets anyway? They clearly do not make things move faster. Just make the price an even number such as $5.00 and making change will take no time.
Go to a festival like Lollapalooza where they have 10 times the number of people yet you rarely have more than a few people ahead of you in line. And its all cash. None of this ticket nonsense.
Line up to get in. Line up to get tickets. Line up to get food/beer.
Get your heads out of your asses.
2010-06-20 @ 22:13 by Jay Bands aside, I have never in all my life been to a more poorly planned event. As with most concert goes, I have been to festivals all over the USA and Ontario and have never been to a worst venue ever.
2010-06-20 @ 23:21 by craig I thought the concert was great! boo hoo there were lines, learn some patience! Sealed water was allowed into the venue and this information was made available well before the event. If people took 5 minutes to educate themselves they would have known this. Instead, they have to make attempts to give bad publicity to an amazing concert that was put on by independent people, trying to offer an alternative to all the SHIT music festivals that happen every year. To the organizers:Great Show, keep doing it! It can only get better!
2010-06-20 @ 23:56 by Jeff Not to beat a dead horse but this was by far the worst planning I have ever seen at an event. The music, food and site were all great. The intentions seemed to be there but there was clearly not nearly enough thought into how many people would be there vs the amount of anything available. We pretty much spent the day waiting for something. We waited in a long line to get into the Fairy terminal. Another long line to get on the fairy. That was fine and to be expected. But then we get off the fairy and have to wait in another long line where it seemed as though only one person was scanning tickets on the foot bridge to let us all in. At this point we were listening to Beach house end their set. So we get in and Band of Horses goes on as we decide to wait in the insanely long beer line only to find that there was an even longer slower beer line in order to get tickets at which point we would have to wait in another beer line to get the actual beer which was right next to the few people giving out tickets. Not to mention the rediculous water policy. We were told we cant bring water into the beer garden but we can dump it out and bring in the bottle to refill it. What sense does that make? So after an hour of waiting in the line, Band of Horses ends and half of our group decide it is not worth it and we decide to get food instead. Another cluster fuck. Nobody really knew which line they were in and when we finally got to the front we werent allowed to order what we actually wanted, from once again the few people trying to accommodate thousands. After 45 minutes in the food line, Broken Social Scene is half over and our friends who stuck it out in the beer line still had about an hour left of their wait. Two hours and 45 minutes they waited for beer. They missed BSS and BofH altogether for 4 beers. I would be extremely embarrassed if I was responsible for the planning of this. I am however, happy to say that Pavement ripped shit up.
2010-06-21 @ 11:19 by adrienlee poorly organized. the lines for food were RIDICULOUSLY long -- more food vendors should have been available. as for the beer tent, a joke. for sixty dollars? a total disappointment.
2010-06-21 @ 14:55 by Rob I agree with angry dan...it was one line up after another all damn day long. I saw one guy get turned away from the beer tent cuz he needed a driver license or passport as id....they said his health card would only be accepted if he was 25.....
2010-06-21 @ 15:05 by AshK None of the food available was gluten free - NONE OF IT! Even the salads had barley on them.
2010-06-22 @ 13:33 by Robbie Collective Concerts are putting on the Arcade Fire show at the island as well. I guess we all know how that is going to go.
Stay away! These guys do not know what they are doing.
Interestingly, Collective Concerts website is down. I wonder if it crashed from all the traffic and backlash, or if they took it down because they are not big enough to accept the criticism for setting up what may have been the worst run concert this city has ever seen.
This has nothing to do with the bands obviously. The music was incredible.
2010-06-22 @ 21:36 by mugz Pathetic. Laughable. An embarrassment.
Sad really - all these fuck ups meant the bands were playing for some pretty disgruntled (and sober and hungry and dehydrated) fans.
2010-06-23 @ 23:30 by krip If a concentration camp and the DMV were put into a blender, you would have the Olympic Island Pavement show. The boat ride back to the mainland was memorable!
